Loch Maree and Slioch
Wester Ross. Hasselblad 90mm. February 2011.
Loch Maree is one of Scotland’s finest freshwater lochs. At it’s widest part it is peppered with around 30 wooded islands, Isolated and protected these uninhabited havens are home to the Sea Eagle, Black-throated divers, Wrens, Otters and Red Deer that are known to swim from the mainland. After two previously unsuccessful attempts I took advantage of a small but stable weather window where I made the short assent to my chosen location. I was keen to show these islands in relation to each other with the dominating buttress of Slioch providing the perfect backdrop.
